Samsung will fight on against Apple

So you’ve lost a big court case against your biggest rival, been ordered to pay over $1 billion in damages, a laundry list of your products are liable to get banned, and you lose $12 billion off your value in a big share slump as a result. That might be grounds to go and cry in a corner, but not if you’re Samsung. The South company has vowed to fight on against Apple with “all necessary measures”.

Apple is trying to get eight Samsung devices banned now, but it is reserving the right to pursue injunctions against all 28 devices which were found to be infringing Apple patents. The first eight on Apple’s list are:

  • Galaxy S 4G
  • Galaxy S II AT&T
  • Galaxy S II Skyrocket
  • Galaxy S II Epic 4G
  • Galaxy S II T-
  • Galaxy S Showcase
  • Droid Charge
  • Galaxy Prevail

The court has set a hearing date of December 6 and Samsung has a variety of options. It is already working on modifying the products targeted to get round the patent infringement. The company can also have its lawyers slow things down by filing to stop the injunction and appealing if it loses.

Things don’t look as bleak as they might appear at first. Samsung’s latest devices, like the Samsung Galaxy S3 are still on sale and flying off the shelves, although we can expect Apple to go after them at some point. Samsung’s share is also recovering and the yesterday about the new Samsung Galaxy Note 2, the Samsung Galaxy Camera, and a surprise line-up of Windows 8 devices, including the first Windows Phone 8 smartphone, the Samsung ATIV S, won’t have done it any harm.
