The amount of changes that are taking place on Google Maps in recent months is not normal. Many new functions have been implemented, some have been activated that were only for some users and the interface has been improved.
And it is in the latter that the Google Maps app development team has been working in recent weeks.
The side menu disappears, the avatar takes center stage
What is most striking about this new version of the application is that we do not have access to the side menu if we slide from the left side. This is comfortable especially if we use the gestures on the mobile but it can be confusing for some.
And where are the settings now? Well, they hide under our avatar, in the upper right corner. If we press we will see that a new window opens to change the account, activate the incognito mode or enter the settings, among other things.
New navigation bar for Google Maps
The other great novelty is the inclusion of new icons at the bottom of the application, which had three before and now has five. We go from the options of Explore, Travel and For you to those of Explore, Travel, Saved, Contribute and News.
It seems clear that Google wants to promote the use of Google Maps as a tool to discover places and value them, being more a competitor of Tripadvisor than Tom Tom, for example. It even tells us the number of people we follow, and how many followers we have.
In the last section, the News section, the recommended places are integrated but also the messages we have sent or received from stores and restaurants.
Gradually, the use of Google Maps is becoming more complex and full of options, but it is also becoming a versatile application that is positioned as the most important when we leave home, whether in our country or in a different one.
This new interface is already in the application that you can download from the Play Store.
