The 40 euros mobile scam: this is my experience

Buying a cheap mobile phone is not always simple and it is very easy to fall for a scam, like the one we have lived to tell you about it.

Android has been a shock when using mobile phones, but also when choosing them. There are hundreds of companies that design and build smartphones that sell in very different ways. Not all brands are Samsung, Apple or Xiaomi.

But despite having limited resources, some manufacturers can be placed in places of certain visibility. For example, looking for the best-selling phones on Amazon, I found a device of a brand that I had never heard of, and I’ve been in this sector for more than two decades.

The Yiwa P33 sold more than the Xiaomi Mi A2 at any given time

This is the Yiwa P33 Plus … or Pro

As you can see, the terminal that was offered on Amazon was a mobile design clearly inspired by the Huawei P30 Series, with the screen printing even of the family in the back area and a gradient that, on paper, reminded them.

Yiwa P33 Plus page on Amazon Spain

The striking thing is that, while there were some specifications on the Amazon sheet, they were not even all that are expected. We see the diagonal of the terminal, that in some photos there are haptic buttons and an interface that is not possible to use, being identical to the EMUI of the Huawei.

Of course, do not miss the FaceID to unlock with our face. Obviously we don’t expect Apple to have the system, not even a decent one.

But the most absurd thing is that the images show a name (P33 Pro) and the Amazon card another (P33 Plus).

He vivido una estafa para que no os estafen a vosotros

Although everything indicated that we should be very attentive to whether it was a scam or a hoax, seeing him in the top positions of Amazon caught our attention too much. So, we bought one so you wouldn’t have to. Or to recommend it, who knows.

September 30: we bought the mobile at Amazon

After talking with the rest of the Free Android team, we decided to acquire a unit for several reasons, from satisfying our curiosity to checking if it was a hoax.

The first thing we saw was that it was not a device that had the advantages of Amazon Prime. Judging by the waiting times in the shipment, it would come directly from China. Boat. Or donkey, namely.

Yes, an express delivery option is available, but it costs 45 euros. You would literally pay more for transportation than for the terminal. We opt for conventional shipping.

October 21: the terminal arrives

He vivido una estafa para que no os estafen a vosotros

A day earlier than expected, the package arrives by mail, wrapped in a piece of protective plastic from the box, a neutral white box without screenprints, or data.

Inside we have the phone, a case, a USB-A to USB-C cable, a charger and headphones, in addition to the instructions.

In the video you have each of the elements briefly shown, but we already advance that quality leaves much to be desired.

October 22: it is a scam, now we confirm it

As expected, the terminal was not what was announced, something we already expected, but we did not know how much. The day after arrival we had time to turn it on and do some checks.

Above we have put the characteristics that the mobile is supposed to have, now we put the ones that it really has.

  • Processor – Mediatek MTK 6572 Dual Core at 1 GHz
  • RAM memory: 512 MB.
  • Storage
    • Internal: 2 GB.
    • MicroSD: Yes.
  • Screen .
    • Size: 5.8 inches.

  • Front camera.
    • Resolution: 0.3 Mpx.
  • Connectivity: Dual SIM, Bluetooth, WiFi …
  • Battery: 3800 mAh
  • System:
    • Android 4 .4 Kit Kat.

He vivido una estafa para que no os estafen a vosotros

As you can see, there are some things like cameras that do have the number they say, one in front and one in the back (no, it says nothing of the other two rear extras), or that has Wifi, bluetooth or Dual SIM.

But there are many others that are worse , such as RAM, which instead of 4 GB has 512 MB, or internal memory, 2 GB instead of 64 GB. Nor is the battery the same, although the lie in this case is less painful.

The screen, on the other hand, is not that it looks regular, it is that it is a low-end screen of eight years ago . In addition, the resolution is far from being FHD (1920 x 1080 px) and remains in archaic qHD (960 x 480 px).

He hecho que me estafen para que no os estafen a vosotros

Camera technology Read… yes, you read that right

Of course, two of the three rear cameras (if they are not a piece of plastic) are useless, although in this case the seller did not say any of that, although they were predominantly shown in the product images. In addition, the resolution of the front is 640 x 480 px, that is, it has 0.3 Mpx and not 8 Mpx as announced. The rear does not have 16 Mpx, although the interface settings indicate it, but it takes pictures at 1280 x 960 px, that is, at a resolution of 1.2 Mpx.

64 GB … which are not real

But all those technical specifications are not the worst. The most surreal thing is when we enter the terminal settings and verify that it indicates that the mobile has 64 GB of memory … but that Android only occupies 0.01 GB. If Google knew they had done magic …

Actually, obviously, it’s not magic. This is a firmware modification to show a false memory.

The same happens if we go to the settings to see the version of Android, which is clearly Android 4.4 Kit Kat for aesthetics, but which is marked as Oreo, and even the Android logo of that version appears, much more current.

Android 4.4 Lock Screen Kit Kat

But the last straw is the fingerprint sensor … that doesn’t exist. The system offers a configuration of a fingerprint sensor on the screen that is nothing more than a copy of those fake applications from the Play Store that show the drawing of a fingerprint on the screen and that allow the mobile to unlock by pressing with any finger. It is surreal.

October 27: being a scam, we return the terminal

As is logical, we have decided to return the mobile to Amazon claiming that it does not meet the specifications and data of the sales record. Not to mention that it is directly a scam.

At the time of buying this mobile there was no review but today we do see some that indicate the same thing we tell you.

October 28: the refund is approved

Very few hours after requesting the return, we are contacted by Amazon to indicate that it has been approved.

The funny thing is that, at the same time, the seller proposes a partial refund of 50% and be able to keep the mobile … We could have accepted if we believed that the terminal in question could serve for something in our case … but it is not so.

Conclusion: if it is too cheap to be real, it is not real

Whenever we look for a mobile terminal, or any other device, we usually look for a bargain. In this case the price was insultingly low, but we wanted to carry out the test so that you could verify that if a mobile phone is too cheap for what it offers, we run the risk of not actually offering it.

So, you have seen that you have to be very careful when buying a mobile, even in stores of recognized prestige such as Amazon, where now anyone can sell a product other than the one advertised on their website.

The same happens if we go to the settings to see the version of Android, which is clearly Android 4.4 Kit Kat for aesthetics, but which is marked as Oreo, and even the Android logo of that version appears, much more current.

Little shame no, no shame no
