Controversy for the Huawei P30 Pro at 139 euros that FNAC sold “by mistake”

A Huawei P30 Pro at 139 euros is an offer that flies in minutes. This happened at FNAC, with a fatal outcome: buyers saw their order canceled.

Following the promotions that happen every day in all online stores is as economical as it is exhausting. Given the enormous competition of the stores, all bets to offer more or less aggressive offers . With a counterpart since there are often errors in prices that trigger complications, both for the store and for the buyer.

Yesterday there was a succulent offer in the FNAC Spain online store: a Huawei P30 Pro for 139 euros; further lowering the price if the client was a member of FNAC , to only 124.90 euros. The offer was published in a huge amount of media related to promotions, also on websites such as Computer Hoy . Logically, the offer was so juicy that sales multiplied in minutes.

The notable drops in the price of a phone are not strange, that a recent mobile has a discount of almost 75% in a Spanish store is rare. The huge difference between the real price and the offered price draws a lot of attention, but it is also the main argument against which those now affected by the purchase have to face.

FNAC canceled all orders for the Huawei P30 Pro claiming price error, lack of stock and computer problems

Polémica por el Huawei P30 Pro a 139 euros que FNAC vendió "por error"

Aspect of the offer in FNAC. Computer Image Today

Online orders canceled for too cheap prices are the order of the day. In general, and always following the law, all stores must comply with the provisions of the contract . Therefore, if a customer has purchased a product at any price, and that price was stipulated in the terms of the contract, he must send it according to what said contract dictates. Although there are statements in favor of trade: if the price difference between the actual cost and the one published on the web is ridiculous, the customer should understand that it is an error, so the store could cancel the order unilaterally by returning the amount to the client.

If the price difference between the actual and the offered cost is ridiculous, the law covers the cancellation of the order

This aspect is not too clear and is always qualified , so there is scope for the claim. In Spain there are cases in which the stores and consumers also won, a sign that there is no single way to act. However, FNAC would have, at least in principle, the law on its part.

Those affected by the FNAC offer are organizing through the hashtag #AfectadosFnac , they have also created a Telegram channel . Joining is a first step to get the phone number offered, also to file a claim: FACUA highlights this when asked by Twitter .

Although the disproportionate offer could be the cause of an error, what is strange is that FNAC has canceled the orders alleging three different causes depending on the client: price error, lack of stock and computer problem . In addition, since many customers took the opportunity to buy the Huawei P30 Pro and become members of the FNAC club so that the mobile would be even cheaper, the company should have canceled both products, the mobile and the membership card. But it is not like that: only the P30 Pro has been canceled , a detail that has ignited those affected even more.

Huawei sales continue to break records: 200 million mobile phones in 10 months

Huawei sales in 2019 have reached 2018 figure so far this year, managing to distribute 200 million smartphones in 10 months.

When the United States confirmed the veto that it imposed on American companies to do business with Huawei at the beginning of the year, many doubted whether the company would be able to deal with this problem so as not to drastically reduce mobile sales.

It is clear that in the countries in which Huawei markets its mobile phones with Google applications, sales have suffered, but it seems that worldwide the figures are better than in 2018. Much better.

200 million mobile phones distributed in 10 months

Huawei has confirmed that it has sent 200 million mobile phones to distributors so far this year. This is an improvement over 2018, when he achieved that milestone at the end of December, specifically taking two months and four days longer than this year.

It must be made clear that it is not about final sales, although sales are not counted in the mobile telephony sector, but distributed units. It is something that all manufacturers do, so the comparison with the competition is fair.

China is the not-so-secret weapon

The reason why Huawei is maintaining, and even exceeding the number of sales last year is for its growth in China , where it is already the most powerful mobile phone company, above brands such as OPPO or Xiaomi.

As can be seen in the chart of the Counterpoint consulting firm, Huawei has been increasing its presence in its home country at the expense of Apple and minor brands since OPPO, Vivo or Xiaomi maintain approximately their influence over the years.

Comparison of market share in recent quarters in China

However, if the company wants to maintain its position in the top 3 manufacturers worldwide, it cannot focus exclusively on China, but has to find a way to be attractive again for the American, European and Southeast Asian markets, where Google applications and services are practically mandatory.

Huawei Nova 5T analysis: a risky bet of the Chinese brand

We have been able to thoroughly analyze the latest Huawei mobile, a terminal whose presentation caught us by surprise, the Huawei Nova 5T.

At the beginning of October, Huawei held a somewhat unexpected event in Madrid in which it presented the new Huawei Nova 5T , a smartphone that had been seen in China but we did not expect it to arrive in Europe, at least with that name.

The Nova have not been an especially important family, but given the current situation of the company and its relationship with the United States , it has been an intelligent way to launch a new product in Spain with all the related and expected guarantees regarding applications and Google services

Because yes, the Huawei Nova 5T is a terminal that includes everything we could expect in services, Google apps, app store … is that enough to currently compete in Spain? Let’s see it.

Huawei Nova 5T features

  • Processor: Kirin 980
  • RAM memory: 6 GB.
  • Storage
    • Internal: 128 GB
    • MicroSD: Yes, up to 512 GB.
  • Screen .
    • Size: 6.26 inches.
    • Resolution: FHD + (2340 x 1080 px).
    • 19.5: 9 screen ratio.
  • Rear camera.

    • 2 Mpx macro.
    • 16 Mpx wide angle sensor.
  • Front camera.
    • Resolution: 32 Mpx.
    • Hole in screen.
  • Connectivity: 4G / LTE, Bluetooth 5, WiFi 802.11a / b / g / n / ac, NFC …
  • Ports:
    • 3.5 mm jack
    • USB C connector.
    • Fingerprint sensor on the side.
  • Battery: 3750 mAh with fast charge.
  • Dimensions: 154.3 x 74 x 7.9 mm.
  • Weight: 174 grams.
  • System:
    • Android version: Android 9 Pie.
    • Manufacturer’s layer: EMUI 9.

With hole in screen and a peculiar fingerprint sensor

The terminals that Huawei has in its catalog are not all the same and this Nova 5T is a good example. It is one of the few models that opts for a hole in the screen to house the front camera. In this case it is on the left side so all notifications will remain in the same area, not cutting the screen in the middle.

If we want we can hide that notch as we do with the rest of the notches in the mobiles of this brand, but it does not bother.

On the left side we have the dual SIM tray and on the top the noise canceling microphone and the infrared emitter. Below we have the speaker and the USB C charging port. In the right area, in addition to the volume buttons is the power button that, as a novelty, is in the fingerprint reader .

Yes, this time we do not have it on one side and, although it is more comfortable on the screen, we must recognize that it works especially well. The problem is that we have sometimes unlocked the terminal by grabbing and squeezing it, almost unintentionally.

We highlight the presence on the handset of a notification LED, something that many value and that in a terminal like this, which does not have an OLED screen, is especially relevant.

A good Huawei processor, with a correct memory

Huawei introduced the Kirin 990 a few months ago, a chip that only Huawei Huawei 30 Pro uses for now, which has not yet been put up for sale in Europe.

But before that launch Huawei used Kirin 980 in its high-end terminals, the processor we saw in the Huawei P30 or Mate 20. This is the same chip that the Nova 5T uses, so we have no complaint of performance , not even with demanding games or with intensive applications.

The internal memory is 128 GB, with no other configuration available. This is important since we don’t have a microSD card. The RAM is 6 GB and although it is not small, for the price it may have should have implemented 8 GB . It seems more a tool of differentiation of this model with other more expensive from the manufacturer itself than an independent choice.

What we have found to be improved is the speed of internet access since in a 600 Mbps network we have reached about 220, far from the more than 500 of other similarly priced models. It is not that we had cuts or much less, but it is something relevant.

The possibility of paying with the mobile phone is maintained thanks to the NFC chip, either through Google Pay or through the bank’s own applications.

We have neither FM radio nor headphone jack , something that is normal in the high range but that would have been nice to see in this model.

There is no OLED screen, so there is no ambient screen

Although more and more models choose to use OLED screens, this time Huawei has used a 2.26-inch LCD panel and 2340 x 1080 px resolution.

The quality of the screen is not bad but it is true that we are in a price range in which many rivals already offer OLED panels. Beyond the quality of blacks or the turn to green when we turn the panel where they use that technology, the ambient screen is missing to see the time and notifications.

The quality of the screen is good and outdoors we have used it without too many problems although it is a fairly conventional screen and, again, the price of the mobile would invite to think of something better.

Enjoying photography

The Huawei Note 5T is one of the new phones that come with four rear sensors. That is the positive part, the negative is that despite that we do not have a sensor with optical zoom.

  • 48 Mpx main sensor.
  • Sensor to measure the depth of 2 Mpx.
  • 2 Mpx macro.
  • 16 Mpx wide angle sensor.

The main sensor is made up of a 48 Mpx camera, a sensor that works very well and that by default shoots at 12 Mpx, like the rest of this type of sensors, to get more detail and a better dynamic range.

The result of the photographs is very good and we even have a mode called Ultra Sharpness that increases the exposure time and that we can use even during the day.

The second sensor is a Wide Angle but, unlike most cell phones of this price, it is 16 Mpx, which makes the resolution and detail greater than that of its rivals, usually 8 Mpx.

The Wide Angle works better than its rivals

In addition, the image quality is very good, being at the level of the main sensor as you can see in the following example.

The third sensor is a 2 Mpx macro sensor and the third one has the same resolution, serving the data collection in portrait mode.

At night the quality of the photographs is very correct, although it reminds more of the Huawei P20 Pro than the later high-end models, probably because of the type of sensor that has been used.

We have, of course, the night mode with high exposure that allows us to get much more detail from the scenes, although we run the risk of making them something unreal.

The front camera gives us good images with light, but at night the washing of the image is too aggressive. The lack of opening of the sensor is noted too, which, in other conditions, it complies.

Of course, as for the video we have to recognize that Huawei’s front stabilization work is barbaric , we can even walk while recording with minimal movement. In this sense they are well above the competition, although obviously the price to be paid is a cut in the final size of the image. You can see some shots in the following gallery.

As you can see, Huawei has behaved in this section, being an especially important one and although the optical zoom is missing, although there are those who may not care, we believe that it is one of the main values of the terminal.

A good battery, without paste

This terminal is one of the few I have tried in recent months with a battery less than 4000 mAh. Nor by much. The 3750 mAh give us decent autonomy thanks in part to EMUI.

In addition, we have a fast charging of 22.5 W , with the charger that comes standard in the box, so the only thing we would miss is the wireless charging, although except models like the Xiaomi Mi 9 few have in this price range .

The autonomy that we have obtained with the use we always make of games, some calls, listening to podcasts, taking photos, listening to music with bluetooth headphones or using social network apps have exceeded 6 hours of screen with 36 autonomy totals .

We are still in EMUI 9 with Android 9

Huawei introduced a few weeks ago EMUI 10, the new version that runs on Android 10 and that today began to reach the Huawei Mate 20 Pro . But that is an exception. Most models, and the Nova 5T is one of them, still uses Android 9 with EMUI 9.

This interface is still solvent and fast, with options that are pleasing, such as gestures with the knuckles, the possibility of hiding the notch or Google Feed on the desktop.

However, taking into account the date of presentation of this model, we would have expected it to come with Android 10 and EMUI 10. We hope that the update does not take too long.

A competent terminal, with a somewhat high price

Huawei has always been characterized by having good value terminals, especially compared to brands such as Sony, LG or Samsung. Samsung itself turned this year to face the Chinese competition by changing how the Galaxy A family was, successfully.

Huawei seems to start to be a giant, but that implies that it will now have to face new players, with more aggressive proposals.

The price of this model is 429 euros in its only configuration, which we have analyzed. While the figure could be logical compared to other Samsung models or similar brands, currently the competition in Spain is extremely strong. Xiaomi, and now really, offer products just as round as this Huawei Nova 5T for a similar price and, sometimes, with some improved performance.

A lower price for this mobile to get closer to 300 than 400 euros would make its target audience much wider.

Huawei has a much larger product portfolio in China than in other countries. In addition to being a larger market, the company wants to fill all the gaps in it, adapting to all the needs of the buyers.

For example, in Spain we have a Nova, the Huawei Nova 5T, but in China there are no less than four, the Nova 5 series (we should add the 5i Pro) . Well, there was, because today a new variant is launched, the Huawei Nova 5z .

Hole in screen and quad camera

Huawei Nova 5Z: características, diseño, precios...

This ends is inspired by models already announced, and that is seen in the hole of the front camera, where the 32 Mpx sensor is housed, or in the quad rear camera, with a main sensor of 48 Mpx, a wide angle of 8 Mpx and two 2 Mpx sensors, one for macro photography and one for depth measurement.

As for the power, we have the Kirin 810 processor, 6 GB of RAM and two variants of memory, 64 GB and 128 GB, both expandable but not by microSD, but by nanoSD, the new card that until now we had only seen in The high end of the firm.

Proper benefits for your price

Being a terminal of contained size it is normal that it does not have an OLED panel. It uses a 6.26-inch LCD with FHD + resolution, the same one used by the Huawei Nova 5T that we have seen in Spain.

It has 4000 mAh of battery and fast charging of 20W, uses Android 10 and obviously does not have Google apps and services, because in China none of the mobiles that are sold have them.

We explain what is the notification of Huawei Mobile Services that you have received

If you have a Huawei smartphone, you may have received a notice in the form of a notification from Huaweii Mobile Services. We explain what it is.

Huawei is currently immersed in a series of changes that will be very relevant in the medium and long term. The reason, as you know for sure, is the decision of the United States government to prohibit the use of software and services from American companies.

That is why some users have been nervous when they received a notification from Huawei Mobile Services indicating that there would be a change in the location of the services.

Moving services from Germany to Hong Kong

Huawei made a movement more than a year ago in which it moved many of its data servers to Germany, through an Irish company called Aspiegel Limited.

With the change that is taking place now, the opposite path is being followed, all these data being in Hong Kong. This change will be effective on November 1, 2019.

It seems that what Huawei intends is to create an organizational base for its Mobile Services now that it will have to use them globally and not only in China as it was before.

What services are affected?

Te explicamos qué es la notificación de los Servicios Móviles de Huawei que has recibido

It must be made clear that the change of country does not imply any type of change for the day-to-day life of Huawei mobile users, whether or not they use Huawei services. These services are:

  • AppGallery
  • APP Assistant
  • Wallet
  • Huawei ID
  • MemberCenter
  • IAP
  • Credits
  • Themes
  • ScreenMagazine
  • Music
  • Mobile cloud
  • browser
  • AppAdvisor
  • Assistant
  • Health

Personal data will be managed by this new company

The new company, Huawei Services (Hong Kong) Co. Ltd, will be responsible for managing the data of all Huawei customers, and will do so in the future worldwide.

Neither the rights of the consumers nor the guarantees of the products will be altered by this change. In addition, users will not have to take any action, unless for some reason they want to unsubscribe.

How to unsubscribe

Te explicamos qué es la notificación de los Servicios Móviles de Huawei que has recibido

If we want to unsubscribe we have to delete the Huawei Cloud account, although that will obviously prevent us from recovering the data we have uploaded so it would be a good idea to have a local copy before. To delete the account we must go to:

  • Settings -> Huawei ID -> Settings -> Remove account.

Huawei has published a document in which it explains these modifications in more detail, you can access it on its website .

However, from Huawei Spain we have confirmed that this, in no case, will affect Huawei devices , their operation, access to Google applications or anything similar.

Huawei would bet on the installation of two operating systems on their mobiles

Huawei is considering installing two operating systems, Android and Harmony OS, on all its mobile phones, including existing ones.

Last week we witnessed a sort of truce between the United States and China in terms of the implementation of new tariffs. At the moment it seems that this does not have any retroactive effect and Huawei is still unable to make use of the applications and services of US companies.

This means that in the future the leaders and engineers of the brand see a need to strengthen their own operating system.

Harmony OS will be ready for mobile in about two years

A few months ago Huawei introduced its own operating system, Harmony OS , and in fact it already has it working on some products, such as Huawei and Honor TVs .

Huawei apostaría por la instalación de dos sistemas operativos en sus móviles

However, at the moment there is no smartphone that carries it and it is that, according to the words of the CEO of the company, Ren Zhengfei, to journalists from Fortune magazine «it will take two to three years to have an operating system available on smartphones» .

This clashes with the statements of a few months ago that indicated that virtually Harmony OS, or Ark OS as it was known at the time, was practically ready to implement on phones.

Two Huawei mobile operating systems

Other sources suggest that Huawei would be considering installing Harmony OS on mobile phones that already have Android. This change would not involve the removal of the Google system.

The idea is to allow a dual boot so that users can choose between the two operating systems that they want to use at all times.

Beyond achieving a somewhat artificial market share , we do not know if Huawei seeks to test its system on a large scale by giving an alternative in its own mobile phones or if it wants to keep its users aware of how the future of the company will be.

Nevertheless, these tests are still at a very early stage and we may not see anything tangible until well into 2020 or even 2021.
